I would be remiss if I didn't at least make a shout out to the pioneers coming across the plains (my reason for being on holiday right now). So, in true "Pioneer Day" spirit, THANKS HEAPS! Last summer I was in D.C. celebrating the holiday with Senator Bennett's staffers.
And, the summer before that, I was on a BYU float in the "Days of '47" parade being hurled abuse by Anti-BYUers from [insert rival university name here]. Ha ha. Well, it wasn't really that bad. Apparently, in years past, BYU representatives had stones thrown at them on the float. They weren't going to mess with me though. :)
Anyway, the real reason for this post is someone that has already been introduced on this blog: Mr. Jack Stevens. "Uncle Jack" has been through a lot recently. In fact, a few months ago, he was fighting for his life in the Intermountain Healthcare Center in St. George.
"Uncle Jack" is now back at home--40 lbs lighter but still as sharp as a tack. To me, he represents the wisdom of years. Certainly, I recognize that he has very strong opinions. Some of these opinions are, to put it lightly, a bit different to mine. However, these are all overshadowed by the wisdom he has gained throughout his 80 something years on earth. I only wish that everyone have an "Uncle Jack," like I do. I've learned a lot from him. I know that these are lessons I'll be able to apply for the rest of my life.

I cannot help but wonder why you are in the BACK of that photo taken in DC. No Ruri luck there. ;)
